Online Classes--The Basics

Your online master's in education classes will allow you flexibility, but you'll need to regularly keep up with them. Often, passing an online class requires ongoing participation in a discussion forum designated for that class. Your online instructor will manage the class's discussion forum, and often a percentage of your grade will depend upon your participation in it. Regular emails are often also expected.

Other criteria involved in your grade include quizzes, examinations, and papers. Between the discussion forum and papers, your writing will likely be a key factor in your grade. While some online instructors allow their students to complete examinations online, others require their students to do so under the supervision of a proctor. A proctor is an approved person designated to monitor students who are taking examinations.

To prepare for your online education, keep the following in mind:

Set aside enough time each week to devote to your online classes.
Ensure your computer possesses the capabilities needed to fully participate in online classes.
Brush up on your computer skills so you can fully participate in your classes.

That aside, as an online student, you'll be free of many of the hassles that on-campus students face. Online students contend with neither commuting time nor parking hassles. There will be no worries about obtaining a parking pass or finding a parking space in the morass of student lots. And time flexibility is an obvious benefit. While you'll be expected to participate in class regularly, you should be able to establish the hours in the day to devote to your education.
