Online, On Campus, or Both?

Now, let's talk about the different kinds of MBA's there are out there. We will discuss both the kinds of programs available and the different focuses you can have when getting your degree.


First, do you want to earn that degree online, on campus, or a mixture of both? There are many fine academic institutions that offer campus-based programs. All the big name colleges and most of the Ivy League schools offer residential MBA programs. Plus, almost all of the big state schools, such as the University of Texas, the University of Michigan, and the University of California offer MBA's. Of course, they take two years and cost about $80,000, plus housing and food. Also these programs are full time programs, so you won't be working while you attend school. You can calculate for yourself how much income you will be missing!

Fortunately, there are other options. The University of Phoenix offers campused-based MBA programs, as does Keller University, which is part of DeVry University. There are a number of other schools in this boat. Most of these cost less than the schools mentioned above, and all of them have programs that allow you continue working while you earn your degree.

Or, you might be tempted to pursue an online MBA. You do the work on your own schedule, taking the courses online, taking tests online, studying online. You get the idea. To succeed here, all you need is a computer and an internet connection. Since you take the courses when you want, you can easily fit it in to your work schedule. It also costs a lot less!


Some schools offer programs where you take some courses online and some in the classroom. The nice part about that is that you can collaborate in person with your classmates. You can meet your teachers in person. Some people love that aspect; others prefer the freedom of the online programs.
